Music and Bread

The new folks around here are musicians. In the other room I've been hearing worship music.. and now Puff the Magic Dragon... a fiddle, guitars, a djembe... quite lovely really.

The new instructors returned today from their training course, all rosy-cheeked and happy. I had prepared for them a feast of BBQ beef, baked beans, pasta salad, watermelon, salad and brownies. What a treat to offer something so satisfying to people. I really love preparing meals for people. So, base is clean and buzzing with people. After so many nights of quiet semi-solitude here it's a little overwhelming getting into the jive of all this new energy. But, I have a feeling it's going to be really positive.

I watched Drakmar last night. It is a film made by a couple guys I knew by association at Point Loma. Delightful and remarkable film about a teenager in San Diego and his passion for dragons and the Adrian empire (those crazy folks who get into medieval character) and his struggle with the absence of his father. He's a remarkable kid and it was a really heartwarming and good movie. Watch it.

Brian came to visit last weekend! I was waiting to post about his visit until he sent me pictures, but he hasn't yet... it was such a nice time. We drove up to Yosemite to view the majesty of the full waterfall effect in early summer. And we went to marvel at the enormity of the giant sequoias in Mariposa Grove, just this side of Yosemite. Then we made lasagna together and chatted with our friend Kelly :). It was a really nice time. Thanks Brian, for coming my way!

I'm making french bread for the first time tonight... I'm a little nervous, but trying to send positive energy into the dough. I'm hoping to make french toast in the morning with it... we'll see. I've had a lot of great food successes lately, which makes me hopeful about this one, but when a bread recipe has like 8 steps... you never know...
