What would you do if you heard tornado sirens?
A. continue what you're doing
B. run to the basement
C. turn on the television
D. call a loved one
E. all of the above
F. other
Guess what I did...
That's right, I turned on the television. I mean, better to know what's really going on than take those silly sirens at 'face' value, you know? Especially for one so inexperienced as I with tornadoes. I thought about going to the basement, but it seems scarier down there... like a tornado already hit it. I did call Kelly to tell her... and my mom... and well yes, I did continue what I was doing...baking cookies.
Fortunately the track of the tornadoes were slightly to the south and traveling north east and to the north traveling east...avoiding the city center. But for some heavy rain and thunder the storm didn't have much to say for itself... until later. I was awoken at 2am by the howling of the wind through my open window... frighteningly strong and flashing skies. I closed the window, tiptoed out of my room to peer out the back... Laurie peeked out of her room. We turned on the computer :) to discover we were being hit head on by a squall ...a wall of storm that stretched long past the borders of Jackson county to the north and the south. The sky flashed and thundered with lightening almost like a disco dance. It was intense. Like no other storm I remember... except the time when lightening struck a light pole outside my bedroom window across the street in Texas when was in middle school...
Piercing adrenaline rushes in the middle of the night!! Glad I didn't leave the midwest without a good tornado warning and a squall wall to write about.

I think your blog title got cut off, or is it meant to be called, 'Taking the Long' which is actually mysterious and intriguing. Taking the long... what? road? way home? Anyhow, Sorry I've had to play blog catch up. You've been fabulous at blogging lately! Hooray! I love it! You are a good writer. My dad enjoys reading your blogs as well. He's the one that told me about your toronado entry, and in a parental sort of voice, told me you 'didn't do the right thing'. Well, you're still alive =) Thanks for the book by the way. It just arrived yesterday =) I'll let you know how I go with it. It looks good. I love you! Oh, and what is your new mailing address??
