Along with deciding, this last week, to return to Summit, I have also decided to continue my education through the same institute where I got my doula certification. So, I started my Medical Terminology class today! This and the completion of the other prerequisites (anatomy and physiology) will set me up to start the actual midwifery program in September and hopefully finish by sometime in 2011! It is all online, but eventually I will involve myself with a mentor/clinic - the whole learning by doing thing :). I'm very excited at the prospect of all these hopes and dreams coming to life in a very real way... as I learn which suffixes are used to indicate surgical procedures and how to pronounce encephalomalacia and how to figure out what encephalomalacia (softening of the brain!) means by analyzing the suffix, prefix or root. THIS is where my Latin and Greek education will come in very handy folks.
AND, my drumming class was fantastic. I found ways to practice today while I was lifeguarding - by drumming out a beat on my lifeguard tube to the rhythm of the swimmer's stroke. Hopefully there will be dancing involved at some point too. The decision here will be between belly dancing, hip hop, salsa or west african dance... what's your vote?
Did I mention that this last weekend offered a couple of the most beautiful days that KC has seen in 2008. The weather was perfection. Michaela and I went on a most invigorating, enjoyable jog through nearby parks around the city. We swung on the swing set and smiled at the blue sky. We were warm in our t-shirts. The outdoors was so satisfying after weeks of below freezing temps and laboring through a jog on a tread mill. We had a pseudo-picnic of pizza and dr. pepper in our front yard. The snow has completely melted... and of course will return tomorrow. Oh well. It is amazing what those moments in the sun can do. Don't take it for granted San Diego.
