Friday the 13th

I'm eating like usual again! Does anyone out there like corndogs as much as me? hm......I'm also getting sick again (this will be the 3rd cold in 2 months)! The anxiety and stress of the past few weeks and lack of adequate sleep have taken their toll on my small frame. I'm not complaining; the manifestation of stress in my life is minimal compared to some. I'm thankful for some relief, though, so maybe I can be a better friend to those who do have worse experiences with stress. I am awed at the peace, clarity and grace that is being realized in me and others this week...as we've prayed...

When, however, relief from the pains and disappointments of this life is not realized quickly enough in God, I sometimes seek it in movies and soda... So, last week I went to the theater to see "The Science of Sleep". It totally took me into cinematic lala land for a while with good ole Gael Garcia Bernal, but then spit me right back out onto the hard boring pavement of real life when it was over. I truly and deeply resent that about my movie watching experiences. I just get so into them, that when they're over it takes some awkward effort to reassimilate my brain and body back to Leighfunctioninginreality mode. I know this seems extreme, but isn't that, in part, what movies are meant for anyway?

So, the annual Miramar airshow is here in San Diego this weekend. My office happens to be about a mile from the airfield that houses the fighter jets that will be performing. This means-LOUDNESS repeatedly throughout the days as they fly around here. I have to admit, it is pretty cool watching them on my drive home from work...distracting, at least...(as if that's a good thing when you're driving)...

If your curious, the reason I don't get much sleep lately is due to following schedule of semi-weekly evening activities (and living a bit out of town)- Mon: church board meeting, Tues: farewell dinner with friends, Wed: French class, Thurs: dinner and Bible study with friends, Fri: prayer meeting - all of which started right after work and lasted until about 10pm. Good stuff, but it doesn't allow for much rest, especially at home.

One last note: my ex-housemate and friend, David, started his road trip photography project on Wednesday, but got deterred (to say the least) when he got into an accident about an hour north of San Diego. He has walked away relatively unscathed, but his truck and trailer are wrecked. Pray for him, and if you want to follow up as he reasses and figures out how to restart the trip or if you have any words of wisdom, money or a mobilehome to give him, you can find out more at: www.streamdavid.com
thanks for reading my blog.

I love reading your blog Leigh! I'm glad things are a bit better. At present, Mark and I escape life's realities by watching a British show (on dvd) in the evenings called Jeeves and Wooster... it's about a rich man and his butler (the butler being the smart one that gets the rich guy out of all his predicaments). It's entertaining. So, do you recommend 'the science of sleep'?
Maybe I asked you this already... but what's your Christmas schedule looking like?? Any leads for ski places/accomodation for me and Mark (and you??)?

Love,

Rachel
